exposing the truth

Why I decided to create this blog

I created unhealthyskeleton to expose Taralynns incredibly unhealthy diet tips and tricks, and her (perhaps unintentional) promotion of disordered eating. This is not an attack on her character as a person but her blog and the effects it can have on her young and impressionable readers who she encourages to follow her footsteps, which now will reach a broader audience since Seventeen magazine irresponsibly hired her on as a “nutrition specialist” when NOTHING about her diet is nutritious at all.

As someone who has struggled with an eating disorder for over ten years, I feel like I have a responsibility to expose this blog, to correct her misinformed information she spreads, and possibly offer alternatives. [edit: this was stupid of me to say, I will never ever offer diet advice! I just mean alternatives in sources that will disprove what taralynn says] She exhibits many symptoms of an eating disorder and her diet tips threaten the health of anyone who decides to take her word for truth.

We live in a society that almost criminalizes being fat and puts skinny on a pedestal, where fat-phobic ideology is printing in all magazines, posted on message boards, that plays out in commercials. For a woman, the WORST thing that you can be is fat. Not evil, vindictive, but fat. Taralynn feeds into this, promises a happy ending if only you lose weight, specifies that once she lost weight, all her problems magically disappeared. This is horrible advice to give to young girls today. It’s pretty much saying “Eat less, work out more, and you’ll be more attractive, happier, and probably more successful in life”.

I refuse to sit back and not say anything about this. So I’m going to do something about it.
